The 2020 high school spring sports season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak and because of that we at the MSC Sports Radio Network have decided to salute area athletes that were expected to be the top returners in their respective sports.
For Sabetha senior David Pierson, this golf season was supposed to be a chance at a repeat after claiming the individual 3A State Championship along with helping lead the Bluejays to a second consecutive team title.
Pierson was great all season for the Bluejays and at the state meet finished one shot better than his teammate Jesse Burger posting a 5-over 76 to claim first place.
Along with winning state last year, Pierson also claimed the Bluejays home regional shooting a 76 which won the regional by three strokes.
His round at state last year was one shot better than his sophomore season where he took seventh at state carding a 77 which came after a fourth-place finish at regionals in 2018.
Pierson had high hopes heading into his senior campaign and although he never got the chance to repeat his individual title, he will always be able to say he’s a two-time team champion and an individual state champion.
