Heading into the Class 321A State Wrestling Tournament, Riverside’s Luke Horn was ranked third in the state at 160 pounds according to the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association despite holding a season record of 40-1.
Horn made sure everyone knew exactly how good he was on Saturday as he wrapped up is career as a Cyclone with a state championship at 160 pounds in Hays.
He finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, earning pins in his first three matches including in only 46 seconds in the semifinals against the No. 4-ranked wrestler in the state.
In the championship match Horn faced off against Matt Rodriguez who was the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state at 160 pounds heading into the tournament but Horn jumped on top early with a takedown in the first period and went on to win by a 2-1 decision.
It marked his sixth first place finish in a tournament this season which includes a regional and Big 7 League championship as well.
Last season Horn claimed fifth place in the 145-pound weight class at state, while his sophomore year he went just 1-2 at 138 pounds at state which was his first appearance.
Horn wraps up his senior campaign with a record of 44-1 and finishes his career as a Cyclone with over 100 wins and a 321A State Championship.
