Luke Horn

Heading into the Class 321A State Wrestling Tournament, Riverside’s Luke Horn was ranked third in the state at 160 pounds according to the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association despite holding a season record of 40-1.

Horn made sure everyone knew exactly how good he was on Saturday as he wrapped up is career as a Cyclone with a state championship at 160 pounds in Hays.

He finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, earning pins in his first three matches including in only 46 seconds in the semifinals against the No. 4-ranked wrestler in the state.

In the championship match Horn faced off against Matt Rodriguez who was the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state at 160 pounds heading into the tournament but Horn jumped on top early with a takedown in the first period and went on to win by a 2-1 decision.

It marked his sixth first place finish in a tournament this season which includes a regional and Big 7 League championship as well.

Last season Horn claimed fifth place in the 145-pound weight class at state, while his sophomore year he went just 1-2 at 138 pounds at state which was his first appearance.

Horn wraps up his senior campaign with a record of 44-1 and finishes his career as a Cyclone with over 100 wins and a 321A State Championship.
