Onaga's Mayginnes Claims Girls Wrestling Regional Title
Morgan Mayginnes

For the first time ever the Kansas State High School Activities Association is set to host a girl’s state wrestling championship tournament and over the weekend held the first ever regional tournament with six area girls qualifying for state.

There was one area regional champion and it came from not only one of the best wrestlers in the state but in the country as Onaga’s Morgan Mayginnes claimed the 155-pound regional title taking out four of the top five ranked wrestlers in the state.

She went into the tournament with a 6-0 record on the year against girls and went through the two-day tournament without allowing a single point collecting pins in each of her four matches with only one of those matches making it to the second period.

That pushes her record to 10-0 on the year against girl’s competition including an overall record of 24-7, going 14-7 against the boy’s division.

Along with being the top ranked wrestler at 155 pounds in the state she is currently ranked eighth in the nation and will travel overseas March 25 to represent the United States.

She is also a two-time top-seven finisher at the Oklahoma Folkstyle Nationals and a Kansas Kids State Champion.

Mayginnes has committed to Baker University to continue her wrestling career after high school and will look to wrap up her career with a state championship February 27 at the state tournament in Salina.
