Year in and year out the Nemaha Central girls’ basketball team has proven to be not only one of the best in Northeast Kansas but the entire state with three straight trips to the state tournament.
The Thunder graduated a strong senior class last season but have picked up right where they left off behind the back of senior Alleigh Kramer who has helped Nemaha Central off to a perfect 8-0 start including a 6-0 mark in the Big 7 League and the No. 1 ranking in Class 3A.
Kramer was lights out for the Thunder last week as she scored 31 points in Nemaha Central’s 50-43 victory over Sabetha in what was a matchup of top five teams in the state and unbeaten teams.
She shot 8-of-10 from the free throw line and picked up the slack lost with a normal starter being out due to an illness by scoring 13 first quarter points while adding nine more in the third.
Kramer is now averaging just under 20 points per game after the big night and is orchestrating an offense that is scoring over 64 points each night.
She was named a first team all-Big 7 League selection a year ago while she also earned a second team all-state selection.
Kramer will look to continue to lead the Thunder towards a league championship and another return to the State Tournament in Hutchinson.
