Through the first three games of the 2019-20 high school basketball season, Sabetha junior Melinna Schumann has helped lead the girls’ basketball team to a perfect 3-0 record which included a big 53-50 win over a good Marysville team to begin the year.
Schumann added to her strong start to the season Friday night as she scored nine points in the Lady Jays 47-35 win over Jeff West in the Big 7 League opener.
She scored all nine of her points in the second half after having to sit out with foul trouble a majority of the 1st half and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter.
Through the first three three games, she is averaging 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals while leading the team in scoring in two of the first three.
Last season Schumann was named a first team all-Big 7 League selection as sophomore after averaging just under nine points per game while recording over two assists and two steals per game.
With just two games left before the holiday break, Schumann and the Lady Jays will look to end 2019 strong with a road game at Riverside Tuesday before hosting Holton on Friday night.
