A year ago, the Horton girls’ basketball team fell on tough times finishing with just four wins and a total record of 4-17.
On Friday night behind a career night from senior Maryanna Randall the Chargers got off to a fast start and opened the season with a dominant 62-20 win on the road at Valley Falls.
Randall was great throughout notching a game-high 28 points as the Chargers scored the first eight points of the game and led 23-2 after one quarter before taking a 40-9 halftime advantage.
Randall is one of five returning starters for the Chargers who returned all varsity contributors from a year ago.
She has been asked to jump into more of a leadership role this season and shined Friday night getting the Chargers off to the start they needed.
Randall and Horton will look to back up the strong start with another good game Tuesday night which will be a tough road game at Jackson Heights before traveling to Maur Hill-Mount Academy Friday evening.
