Since starting the season 1-2 the Perry Lecompton football team has turned things around winning four of their last five games to finish the regular season 5-3 and 4-1 in Class 3A District Three to take second.

The Kaws wrapped up the second spot in the district with a 57-6 win over Bishop Ward last week behind a huge offensive performance from senior quarterback Billy Welch.

Welch was nearly perfect in the win completing 13-of-15 passes for 213 yards and six touchdowns while recording a quarterback rating of 138.2.

This season Welch has been great throwing for 1,410 yards and 16 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions while he has added 131 yards and three more scores on the ground.

He accounts for over 190 total yards of offense per game and has completed over 65 percent of his passes for a QBR of 118.1.

His best game through the air came in week four in a 49-6 beat down of Wellsville where he threw for 244 yards and four touchdowns, while Welch’s best game running the football came in a 33-21 win over Santa Fe Trail where he ran for 129 yards and three scores.

He has thrown for over 200 yards four times this season and is averaging over 175 yards passing per game.

Welch will look to continue his strong play and propel the Kaws to a deep playoff run which will start Friday night hosting Wamego with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
