Maggie Goltz
|
It was another great season for the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish girls as they wrapped up the season with a 25-5 record and captured a third place finish in the Class D2 State tournament.
A major part of the Irish’s success this season stemmed from a young budding star in freshman, Maggie Goltz. Maggie opened up the tournament for the Irish with a 30 point performance, going 12-15 from the floor and 6-9 from the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds and two blocked shots in the 57-42 win over Sandhills-Thedford.
While the second round didn’t go in favor of Falls City Sacred Heart with a 51-28 loss to Osmond, Goltz still had a solid game with 10 points on 5-7 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Irish responded from the loss in a big way and Goltz came out firing in the third place game, tallying 18 points all on three-pointers. Maggie hit six treys in the game setting a new Class D2 State tournament record in the process of helping her squad to a 50-35 win over Lindsay Holy Family to finish the state tourney with a third place finish.
Goltz didn’t just get it done in the tournament but she was a game changer as a freshman all season for the Irish setting records and registering some great stats. With her 58 points at the state tournament she totaled 309 points this season a freshman record at Sacred Heart, while her 263 rebounds and 62 blocks are third best all-time on that list, too. Maggie, also this season added 30 steals, 30 assists and shot better than 40 percent from three-point land.
It was a great season for the Irish and freshman, Maggie Goltz made her presence known just as a freshman and looks to be a staple for the Irish on the court for the years to come.
