Quinn Buessing

The first official week of the high school sports season wrapped up Friday night with week one of the high school football season and with that we have picked our first athletes of the week sponsored by Highland Community College.

On the boy’s side our athlete of the week is Axtell senior Quinn Buessing who had a huge start to the season Friday night for the Eagle football team in a 58-12 win over St. John Tipton.

Buessing threw for 207 yards with three touchdowns and rushed for four touchdowns.

He is coming off a stellar junior campaign which saw him throw for 2,595 yards and 51 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions.

Buessing has thrown for over 5,700 yards in his career along with 97 touchdowns and a year ago finished second in all classes in passing yards while leading the state in touchdown passes by 13.

The Eagles and Buessing will look to continue their strong start to the season Friday night as Axtell will put their No. 2 ranking in the state up against Blue Valley at home with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
