The first official week of the high school sports season wrapped up Friday night with week one of the high school football season and with that we have picked our first athletes of the week sponsored by Highland Community College.

Our girl’s athlete of the week is Royal Valley’s Ivy Fink who has helped lead the Panther volleyball team to a perfect 13-0 start to the season and two tournament championships.

The Panthers opened the season August 31 and went 6-0 to claim the Marysville Invitational and followed that up by claiming the Jeff West tournament last Saturday.

Fink leads the Panthers in kills with 122 on the season and is second on the team in aces with 18 and digs with 46.

Royal Valley is set to continue their season with two Big 7 league games Tuesday night at Holton against the Cats and Perry Lecompton before competing at the Oskaloosa Invitational on Saturday.
