Last season the Sabetha baseball team capped of what was a magical sports season with a 3A state title which was the first in the history of the baseball program.

Thursday evening the Bluejays made sure they will be back this year to defend their title, as Sabetha captured their home regional championship with a 13-6 win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy.

Leading the charge Thursday night was junior Jake Longabaugh who delivered a 3-for-4 performance with four RBI’s and got the big hit Sabetha needed each time he came to the plate.

After the big day against MH-MA the Bluejays’ first baseman is now batting over .310 on the year to go along with 25 RBI’s and eight runs scored.

He is also boasting a .435 on-base percentage and has compiled 10 walks so far this season.

Longabaugh in the Bluejays now head into the state tournament in Emporia to defend their title, as Sabetha is the 3-seed and will open against Baxter Springs Thursday night as first pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with live coverage on 92.1 KMZA.
