Emma Yungeberg

All records are meant to be broken but typically they are broken by seasoned veterans who have put in the time.

For Valley Heights freshman Emma Yungeberg she hasn’t needed the time, as last week she set two school records in track and field events with record throws in the shot put and javelin.

She opened up the week at the Republic County Invitational setting the shot put school record with a throw of 40 feet, 9 inches, before following that up with the javelin record at the Frankfort Invitational with a toss of 133 feet, 7 inches.

Among all freshman in the country Yungeberg unofficially ranks sixth in the shot put, while her javelin toss would have her in the top five throughout the Northeast Kansas area.

She has placed in the top three in each event so far this season, with her best finish coming in the Mustangs home invitational to begin the year as she picked up wins in both the shot put and javelin.

Valley Heights has just three meets remaining in the regular season and Yungeberg has high hopes of possibly reaching the state meet in Wichita in just one short month.
