Jackson Heights' Abby Brey Helps Lead Cobras to 2A State Tournament
Abby Brey

The 2018-19 high school basketball season has been one to remember for the Jackson Heights girls as the Lady Cobras punched their ticket to the Class 2A State Tournament for the first time since 1999 on Saturday by claiming the 2A Valley Heights Sub-State.

The Lady Cobras had to pull out a close game to go along with upsetting one of the better teams around the area and leading the charge last week was senior Abby Brey.

Brey was outstanding when the Lady Cobras needed it most, notching two double-digit outings in the sub-state semifinals and finals.

She opened up the week with 7 points in a thrilling opening round 1-point victory over Republic County, followed that up with 14 points in Jackson Heights’ semifinal win over Valley Heights and capped off the week scoring 20 points on four 3-pointer in sub-state championship win over ACCHS.

Brey has come on strong as of late and has upped her average to right around 10 points per game helping the Lady Cobras get out to a 17-5 record.

She will look to continue her strong play into the state tournament this week, as Jackson Heights is the sixth seed and will play 3-seed Sterling Thursday in the opening round in Hays at 8:15 pm with live coverage on 103.9 KNZA.
