After winning a state wrestling championship at the high school level, the following season you often have a target painted on your back with every opponent wanting to knock off the defending champion.
For Sabetha senior Elliot Strahm he has passed every test with flying colors, as this past week he punched his ticket to head back to the state tournament claiming the Rossville regional title in the 285 pound weight class.
He opened the regional tournament as the No. 1 seed and earned a pin in his opening round match and followed that up two more wins via pin fall including a pin in the regional championship match in just 1:27.
Strahm after the 3-0 week is up to a perfect 29-0 on the season which comes after going 39-8 a season ago as a junior.
Not only did Strahm capture a regional title and earn his chance to repeat as a state wrestling champion, but he has helped lead the Sabetha football team to back-to-back 3A State Championships which earned him a preferred walk-on spot to play football at Kansas State University which he accepted on Monday.
Strahm will look to cap off his tremendous high school career with another state championship this weekend, as he enters the 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament in Hays as the No. 1 overall seed.
