A strong finish to last year with seven wins in the final 10 games and plenty of experience back the Jefferson County North lady Chargers basketball team enter the 2016-17 season with plenty of optimism and have started the season strong.
Off to a 3-0 start JCN has started the year with a trio of Northeast Kansas League wins and picking up where they left off at the end of last year with their strong play. Helping lead the charge his year is returning junior, Ravyn Jobbins who is off to a solid start herself notching double figures in all three games this season. Last week the Chargers topped Immaculata 55-30 and beat Horton 55-24 and Jobbins netted 14 and 10 points, respectively in those games and that’s after a season opening performance of 17 points against McLouth.
The junior has not only been getting it done with her scoring but been a jack of all trades for the Chargers to start the year as she is averaging 13.7 points per game, but adding four rebounds, two assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks per game to her stat line to fill up the stat sheet. Jobbins was the leading scorer in two of the three games thus far and is shooting 53% from the floor and is a perfect 7-7 from the line on the year.
Chargers entered the season with high hopes of building on last year Sub-State runner-up performance and challenging for their first NEKL title since 2013-14, which is also the last time the team made the State tournament. Jobbins and company have JCN playing strong team basketball early in the season under Coach Steve Noll and the Chargers look to continue to charge ahead for a strong year on the court.
