Troy Trojan, Alex Martinez Leads Trojan Rushing Attack Versus Mustangs

For the fourth straight year the Troy Trojans won an opening round Class 2-1A football playoff game and started their playoff run this year with a 42-16 victory at home against Valley Heights, moving on to the Sectional round of the playoffs.

The Trojans have been dicing up defenses with their aerial assault passing attack all year but it was the rushing attack that helped guide Troy to the first round playoff win over Valley Heights. Averaging about 141 yards per game rushing entering the playoffs Troy posted 238 yards on the ground against the Mustangs and it was the team’s leading rusher senior, Alex Martinez that speared headed the rushing attack on the night rushing for 123 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown. Martinez made an impact on the game in several other ways also catching one pass for six yards, making seven tackles on defense and was 2-2 on PAT’s.

Throughout the year Martinez has been a steady player out of the backfield for Troy rushing for 445 yards on 79 carries notching a 5.6 yards per carry average with six touchdowns, while also snagging five passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Alex has been strong at linebacker recording 53 tackles while making an impact on special teams making 28-40 PAT’s and going 2-2 on field goal attempts hitting 32 and 21-yard field goals.

Troy has rolled to a 10-0 mark on the season and has their sights set on a strong finish to the season and Martinez looks to continue to crucial part to the Trojans game plan this year with his teammates as they look for another deep playoff run.
