It came down to a win or go home situation in week nine for the Holton Wildcats as they traveled to Santa Fe Trail looking to for win in order to make the 4A-DII football playoffs.
At the end of the night the Wildcats earned that spot by getting the 36-24 win on the road to move to 5-4 on the season and earn a playoff spot for the 19th straight year. Holton rode the back of senior, Spencer Baum in the win who has helped lead the team all year and had his best performance rushing in the victory posting 252 yards on 19 carries with four touchdowns, while impacting the game on defense and special teams, as well.
All throughout the year Baum has been a leader with his play on the field and demeanor helping the Wildcats run for 393.3 yards per game as a team, while rushing for 1,153 of the teams 3,540 rushing yards this season. The senior has amassed the 1,153 yards rushing on 121 carries giving him a 9.5 yard per carry average, while visiting the endzone 15 times and he’s even caught two of the teams six completed passes this year going for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Baum has also made an impact on defense recording an interception, fumble recovery and plenty of tackles this year, while returning kicks and punts throughout the year, too.
The senior heads into the playoffs with Holton having nearly totaled 2,000 rushing yards in his career and ran for 127+ yards this season in six of the team’s nine games.
The Wildcats look to make another run in the postseason and Baum looks to be at the front of attack helping lead the charge for Holton as he has done all season.
