Kyle Ames

The Onaga Buffaloes grappled their way to a strong start to the wrestling season as they opened the year on the mats at the Lincoln Round Robin Tournament and picked up the tournament win.

Onaga registered 142 points on the day beating out seven other teams in the competition to capture the Tournament crown and leading the way was three Buffalo first place performances on the mats.

One of those first place performances came at the hands of senior, Kyle Ames who wrestled his way to a 5-0 record on the day and the 195lbs individual title, winning all his bouts by pinfall. Kyle in round one picked up a pinfall win in 1:05 and followed that up with a quick 32 second pinfall victory in round two. Rounds three and four took a little longer but it was ultimately the same result for Ames who won via pin in 3:18 and 3:47. In round five Ames finished his day with a pinfall win in 1:27 to go 5-0.

Last year, Ames enjoyed a successful year on the mats going 27-15 and finishing sixth at State in 3-2-1A at 182lbs.

Off to a fast start this year Ames looks to continue his strong performances on the mats and partnered with his teammates the Buffaloes look to enjoy a strong season on the mats.
