Amy Wysong & Ellie Montgomery

It takes teamwork and trust to create a great tennis tandem on the court and Sabetha Bluejay junior, Amy Wysong and Ellie Montgomery have been able to find that right balance on the court.

The friends on and off the court, Amy and Ellie compliment each other greatly and its led to great success in the sport of tennis for the pair. Wysong and Montgomery have enjoyed a 25-5 record this season with multiple top three places at tournament and matchups this season.

The tandem have been hitting the tennis courts since elementary school attending tennis camps and blossoming into great tennis players. Their great attitude, work ethic and friendship has led to success on the tennis courts.

Most recently the tandem punched their ticket to the state tournament coming up this weekend on Friday and Saturday, earning the spot at state in impressive fashion by securing a first place finish at the Hillsboro regional going 4-0 in competition. After cruising through the first two rounds 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2, Wysong and Montgomery had a harder matchup in the semifinals. Amy and Ellie took down a team from Marysville in the semifinals 6-1, 7-6(4). As the number two seed in the doubles competition they meet up with the one seeded team from Marysville in the finals. It was a tough battle and a three match final with Wysong and Montgomery coming out on top (6-0, 6-7(2), 6-3).

This year's trip to state marks the second time that Amy and Ellie has made the state tournament in their career.

Amy and Ellie, have enjoyed other top performances this season with a first place finish at the Hiawatha Invite, Marysville Quad and Topeka-Hayden Invite. On top of the first place finishes they also registered two second place finishes at the Topeka-Hayden Quad and Immaculata Invite, while taking third at the Wamego tournament to start the year.

The Bluejay tandem looks to have a strong outing this weekend when they head to the state tournament in Hutchinson on Friday and Saturday, October 12th and 13th.
