KS Baseball & Softball Recap -- April 4th Games

Here is a Kanzaland area wrap-up of all the area baseball and softball action from a full slate of games on April 4th.

Softball:

McLouth swept Immaculata 16-1 and 15-0

Holton swept Hiawatha 13-0 and 17-2
        Holton dominated on the night sweeping Hiawatha in a Big Seven double header. In the first game, Quinn Holaday lead the Wildcats on the mound giving up only 2 hits and striking out 9 on her way to the win, as the Wildcats registered the 13-0 victory. Mikayla Booth and Taryn Wielert got it done offensively each with 3 hits. For Booth she was 3-4, while Wielert went 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Holton took an early 3-0 lead and added 7 in the fourth to secured a dominate win.
      In game two, Holton's offense continued to rake with Amber Searles going 3-4 with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored, while Cassidy Merriman registered a 4-4 game with a HR, 3 RBI and four runs scored. Maddi Penry earned the win, while registerign 5 K's on the day. Hiawatha took an early 2-0 lead but Holton then scored 17 straight for the 17-2 win.

Troy swept Maur-Hill 19-0 and 16-0
       Trojans pu on a show offensively and pitching out scoring Maur Hill 35-0 on the day and out hitting the Ravens 25-5 between both games. In the 16-0 win it was Holly Stegall and Bailey Jenkins each finishing with a pair of hits. Stegall went 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI and a run scored, while Jenkins went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Troy ended the game in three innings, primarily behind a 13 run second inning. Alex Winder earned the win, pitching all three innings with a final line of 2 K's, 1 hit given up and a walk.
      In game two, Troy put up a 19-0 performance as Stegall continued to have a hot bat going 3-3 with 2 RBI's, 3 runs scored and four stolen bases. Kaylee Bennett also had a three hit game finishing 3-4 with 4 RBI, 2 runs scored and a triple. Tanner Weishaar earned the win pitching all three innings, giving up four hits, striking out five and giving up two walks.

Riverside swept Doniphan West 17-1 and 23-9
      Cyclones after losing their first two games of the season responded with a double header sweep of Doniphan West. In the 17-1 win for Riverside they ended the game in three innings with a 5-run first, 3-run second and 9-run third inning in the game. Erica Halter tallied 4 RBI's for the Cyclonces while Sydney Meers was the winning pitcher. Doniphan West also hurt themselves in the game with 6 errors.
     In the 23-9 loss for Doniphan West, the Cyclones were actually out hit by the Mustangs, 10-7, but a 13-run foutrh and 9-run fifth innings helped the Cyclones get the win. Doniphan West actually lead it 7-1 going into the fourth inning. Halter again had a 4 RBI game with Sam Whitten also getting 4 RBI's.

Oskaloosa swept Pleasant Ridge 9-2 and 9-2

Santa Fe Trail swept Nemaha Central 15-0 and 10-0

Jeff West swept Perry Lecompton 14-2 and 11-0

Atchison swept KC Washington in a pair of 15-0 wins
      The Lady Red dominated KC Washington in every way shape and fashion with a pair of 15-0 wins, which were both no-hitters. In the first game Atchison out hit KC Washington 11-0 and produced 13-runs in the first tinning, as the game was over after three innings. Hannah Jaloma highlighted the day for the Lady Red as she pitched one of the two no-hitters and totalled 11 RBI's on the day with two triples and a HR. Lizzie Walz added a HR and triple of her own with 3 RBI's in game one, while Avery Enzbrenner registered the other no-hitter (both coming in 3 innings).

Valley Falls sweeps ACCHS with 25-3 and 16-6 wins

Wamego sweeps Royal Valley 14-3 and 8-2
     Royal Valley struggled on the road against Wamego as they registered 9 total errors on the day which allowed Wamego to take advantage for their 14-3 and 8-2 wins, as Wamego would also out hit Royal Valley 18-10 on the day. Panthers offensively in the loss were highlighted on the day by Jaycee Worrell who went 4-7 with a pair of runs scored.

 

Baseball:

Valley Falls swept ACCHS  20-1 and 33-2
       Dragons of Valley Falls made quick work of ACCHS in a DVL showdown outscoring them 53-3 on the day ending the first game in 5 innigs and the second in 3 innings. In the 20-1 victory, it was Luke Burns earning the pitching win for the Dragons while Kyle Glissman went 3-4 in the game. In game two, freshman, Zac Allen recorded 8 K's to get the pitching win and also went 3-3 at the plate, with Glissman again having a great offensive performance goign 4-5 in this contest. Ben Gantz also had a nice offensive night for the Dragons going 3-3 and 3 walks on the night in both games.

Royal Valley swept Santa Fe Trail 5-3 and 7-3
       Panthers pullled out a couple of the closer games in the area topping the Chargers in a twinbill. In the 5-3 win for Royal Valley it was Mucks Wahweotten leading the way as he was 2-3 with a double, walk and 2 runs scored, while earning the pitching victory behind 6 great innings of work (6 K's, BB , 2 hits given up and 0 runs). Craig Thurber took over the second game for the Panthers going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, while pitching a complete game, recording 12 K's, giving up 4 hits and 6 BB's, while only allowing 3 runs. Erich Weidmann, Dylan Conley and Zack Lux each had two hits apiece in the 7-3 win, also for the Panthers.

Perry Lecompton swept Jeff West 12-7 and 2-1                               

Troy won 5-1 over Maur Hill-Mount Academy
    
It was a tight ball game for most of the game as it was tied 1-1 until the sixth inning when Troy posted a run in top half of the inning to take the 2-1 lead. Then the Trojans went on to post 3 more runs in the top of the seventh inning to cap off the 5-1 win. Colton Masters earned the pitching win for the Trojans.

Pleasant Ridge won 12-11 over Oskaloosa
    In an offensive packed game it was the Rams topping the Bears by one run. Both teams tallied the hit totals north of 10 with Pleasant Ridge registering 15 hits and Oskaloosa with 14, but Oskaloosa's two errors hurt them in the game. The Bears took an early lead behind an 8-run first inning, but the Rams came back with a 3-run second, 2-run fourth and 5-run fifth, behind four doubles on the day and two HR's. For Oskaloosa, offensively Louis Rodgriguez lead the way with 2 HR's, including a grand slam, registering 5 RBI 's and also a double.

Riverside sweep Doniphan West 13-2 and 16-0
      The Cyclones took care of business in this DVL showdown earning a pair of road wins over the Mustangs. In the 13-2 win Riverside out hit Doniphan West 15-5, while the Mustangs had a error plagued game with 6 errors; the Cyclones had three of their own. Riverside took firm control of the game with a 7-run seventh inning, as Zach Halter earned the win. In the second game Riverside pulled off the 16-0 win in 5 innings of work.

Norris sweeps Marysville 18-0 and 13-2
    Marysville struggled against non NCKL team Norris being out hit 30-6 in the two game and committing 16 errors on the day. Both game ended in 5 innings as Norris struck with big innings early, in the 13-2 win, Norris posted 11 in the first and the 18-0 win Norris scored 10 in the third.
