Nemaha Central and Holton Split Big Seven League Double Header

It was the first Big Seven League showdown of the season for Holton and Nemaha Central and in Nemaha's case their first ever in baseball history.

On the night both teams finished with a win as they split the double header in Holton. Wildcats started the night behind a 16-2 win using a multitude of free passes to gain the win. While, in the night cap Nemaha Central took home the 4-1 win behind aggressive base running and a stellar pitching performance by Dustin Rottinghaus.

In game one, Holton jumped out to a early lead tallying 11 runs in the first two innings and cruising to the 16-2 win in the matchup. Wildcats offensive game was highlighted by a pair of homers, by Jayson Yingst and Chase Wilson and nearly 10 free passes give up by Nemaha Central. For, Yingst he blasted a three-run shot, while Wilson's homer came later in the ball game on a solo shot. Justin Rieschick pitched well in the first game to earn the win.

Game two was a different story as pitching took over things with Dustin Rottinghaus taking control pitching a complete game for the win, finishing with a final line of four hits given up, four walks, one run surrendered and 10 K's. Rottinghaus had the lead before he hit the mound, as Nemaha Central tallied a run in first inning with a single and a pair of walks and a trio of stolen bases. Nemaha added another run in the second inning, to lead it 2-0.

Then the pitching and defense for both teams, took away opportunities from the other to keep things pat at 2-0. Holton then threatened in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back walks to lead the inning of but Rottinghaus and his defense behind him got the next three Wildcats to avert giving up runs. In the sixth, Holton finally broke through with a solo home-run by Chase Wilson, but Holton was only able to get one run out of the inning.

Nemaha headed to the top of the seventh looking for some insurance and three hits and one walk to tallying two runs, to lead it 4-1, which ended up being the final after Holton late threat in the seventh was dashed. Devin Henry had a big double in the seventh for Nemaha and Alex Rottinghaus had an RBI infield single.

Nemaha Central finished with five hits with Alex Rottinghaus, Michael Rottinghaus, Joshua Schraad, Devin Henry and Dustin Rottinghaus each tallying a hit. For, Holton they finished with four hits and strandarded six. Wildcats had hits by Wilson, Eric McKinsey, Cooper Zeller and Andrew Rieschick.

With the split Nemaha Central is now 3-3 on the season and Holton moves to 1-3 on the year. Nemaha Central next hits the diamond on Monday April 8th at Royal Valley, while Holton plays next on Monday also at Perry Lecompton.
