Troy Boys Rally with Massive Second Half to Drop Riverside

The Troy boys basketball team won a wild game on Friday night at home, defeating the Riverside Cyclones in league play 73-64. 

Riverside came out on fire in the first quarter which included a 13-0 run to build a quality lead, but the Trojans came back and made it a 19-17 game after the first eight minutes. 

The teams went back-and-forth in the second quarter but the Cyclones would take a 33-27 lead at halftime. 

The Trojans weren't messing around in the second half as they would outscore the Cyclones 23-7 in the third quarter to take a 50-41 lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Troy would continue their run as they would score the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and built a 19 point lead at 60-41. 

The Cyclones would fight back and make things interesting late getting to within five points in the final minute, but the Trojans were able to knock down some key free throws to hold on for the win. 

Troy got some balanced scoring in the game led by Henry Geiger with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Colt Jensen poured in 17 points off the bench, Hunter Engemann scored 16 points, and Kaston Jasper finished with 11 points. 

Riverside got 22 points in the game from Keagan Hughes while Ty'Zell Harrington finished with 10 points, but battled foul trouble throughout the game. Kobe Koehler and Beckam Griffin each finished with nine points. 

With the win, Troy improved to 11-9 overall and 6-2 in Northeast Kansas League play. With the loss, Riverside has a five-game winning streak snapped as they dropped to 16-5 overall and 8-1 in league play. 

Troy will wrap up their regular season with two road league games next week with Oskaloosa on Tuesday and Horton on Friday. Riverside will wrap up league play Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge and will follow that with their final game on Friday at Hiawatha.
