The Holton volleyball team picked up two impressive wins on Tuesday night at the Nemaha Central Tri with the Thunder going 1-1 on the night and Sabetha going 0-2.

Match 1: Sabetha vs. Nemaha Central (25-27, 25-13, 25-11)

The Bluejays have played a difficult schedule to start the season and that didn't change on Tuesday night. They hung tough with the Thunder and rallied to take set one after trailing at one point 24-20.

The Thunder rebounded and dominated the next two sets to get the win. In set two, the Thunder had multiple runs which included a stretch of seven straight points and 14 of 16 going their way to really help pull away to force a third set.

In that final set, it was fairly similar to the second set with the Thunder having three separate stretches of really good play. With Sabetha leading early 6-4, the Thunder responded with a run of scoring eight of the next nine points and then towards the end of the third set the Thunder put it away scoring the final eight points of the match.

Match 2: Sabetha vs. Holton (25-22, 25-19)

Holton has been one of the top teams in 4A to start the season and they continued their good play in their first match of the night against the Bluejays getting the straight set victory.

Trailing 9-7 in the opening set, Sabetha would go on a run where they would score six straight forcing the Wildcats to call a timeout.

The timeout did wonders for the Wildcats because they would get right back into it and they would score nine of 11 points and then would score the final four points of the set after it was 22-21 Bluejays.

The first half of the second set was back-and-forth with both teams holding leads at some point. The Bluejays would lead the second set at one point 17-15 but they couldn't force a winner take all set three.

The Wildcats finished off the second set and the win the match scoring six straight and eight of the last night points down the stretch.

Match 3: Holton vs. Nemaha Central (25-17, 25-19)

It's very early in the season but this matchup with the Thunder and Wildcats would determine first place in the Big East league moving forward.

The Wildcats took control of the opening set holding a lead for a good chunk of it. At one point the Holton lead was 18-11 but the Thunder would go on a run and get within 19-16 but that was as close as they would get as Holton would score six of the last seven to take set one.

The two teams went back and forth early in set two with Nemaha Central holding a 10-8 lead. The Wildcats would respond with a run scoring six straight and eight of the next nine points to gather the lead.

The Thunder would keep it close the rest of the way but couldn't get over the hump to force a third set. The Thunder were within 20-18, 22-19, 23-21, and 24-23 but when they needed one more point to force extra time, the Wildcats were able to get the final point that they needed.
