The Hiawatha and Troy boys couldn’t have played a more competitive and balanced game on Friday night.

So many ebbs and flows throughout the night with emotions running high. Four quarters weren’t enough. Not just one, but two overtime sessions were needed with the Redhawks and Trojans with Troy surviving a wild game 87-85.

Troy (2-1) would come out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter as they would build an early double-digit lead, ultimately leading the Redhawks 22-14 after the first eight minutes.

The Redhawks (1-1) would turn up the pressure on both ends of the floor in the second quarter outscoring Troy 20-13 to trail by only one at halftime 35-34.

Despite battling back, the Redhawks didn’t have their first lead of the game until the third quarter, and it was brief, but the game stayed close. Troy led 56-53 going into the fourth quarter and that is where things got wild.

The fourth quarter would see a bevy of lead changes with both fan bases absolutely engaged in what had been an incredible game.

Down two with the ball on the final possession of regulation, Hiawatha’s Leyton Moore had a wide open corner three that missed off the front rim. Braylon Siebenmorgen was in the right place at the right time to tip the ball in at the buzzer to send the game to the first overtime tied at 71.

Troy’s duo of Kaston Jasper and Henry Geiger had monster performances with Jasper making clutch shot after clutch shot in the overtime periods.

We needed a second overtime as the game was tied 80-80 going into another extra four minutes of play.

The Redhawks would score the first four points of the second overtime, and then Troy would come right back with five straight to lead 85-84 with under a minute to play.

The Redhawks would get a free throw from Lane Kesler to tie the game at 85 with Troy looking to have the final shot.

Jasper would draw a foul on the perimeter with just seconds left and he would knock down both free throws to give the Trojans an 87-85 lead.

The Redhawks had the go the full length of the floor with 2.6 seconds left to either win the game or send it to a third overtime.

Ethan Morton launched a pass near mid court which was deflected into the hands of Michael Jensen who had a look from 45 feet for the win, but the shot came up short and the Trojans survived.

Jasper led the Trojans with 34 points as he went 8-of-10 from the free throw and hit six threes in the game including multiple downtown shots in the overtime periods.

Henry Geiger poured in 26 points and 12 rebounds while Hunter Engemann added 15 points.

The Redhawks got 36 points and 14 rebounds from Siebenmorgen, but he fouled out in overtime.

Kesler finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, Jensen finished with 12 points and six rebounds, Moore finished with 11 points, and Karson Henry finished with eight points.
