Jackson Heights Opens Season with Shutout Victory vs. Riverside

Jackson Heights opened up their 2025 football season with a 21-0 win at home against Riverside on Friday night. 

The difference in the game was a stretch through the end of the first quarter into halftime where the Cobras got all three of their touchdowns on three straight possessions. 

Cobras QB Drake Mellies scored the first touchdown of the game on a three yard run towards the end of the first quarter to give them a 7-0 lead. 

Both teams had two possessions in the second quarter with Jackson Heights adding two more touchdowns while the Cyclones had a punt followed by a lost fumble. 

Drake Mellies tossed a 12-yard touchdown to Austin Zeller to make the score 13-0, and they followed that with a four yard pass from Mellies to Sir Peek to make the score 21-0 going into halftime. 

Neither team could get much going in the second half as both teams were held scoreless in the final two quarters. 

Mellies finished the game with 18 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown while completing 4-of-10 passes for 36 yards and two more scores. 

Freshman running back Tatum Eisenbarth busted a 64 yard run in the fourth quarter and finished the game with eight carries for 100 yards. 

Riverside quarterback Beckam Griffin finished with 16 carries for 33 yards while completing 5-of-16 passes for 76 yards and an interception. 

The #2 ranked Cobras start the season 1-0 and will travel to Maur Hill-Mount Academy in week two while the Cyclones start 0-1 and will have their first home game against ACCHS.
