Nemaha Central Takes Down Hiawatha in Regional Quarterfinals

The Nemaha Central baseball team opened up their regional tournament in Sabetha on Friday afternoon with a 12-2 win over Hiawatha. 

The Thunder (15-9) got their first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single by Levi Thomas. 

The Redhawks (6-16) would take a 2-1 lead in the third inning as Aden Grathwohl would smash a two RBI triple with two outs and on a two strike count. 

NC would take the lead right back for good in the bottom of the third with two runs helped out with an RBI single by Derek Wurtz. 

The Thunder scored eight runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away via the run rule. 

Wurtz finished the game with three hits and two RBI's, Sam Nordus reached base twice with a triple and two runs scored, and Caleb Hynek had two hits and two RBI's. 

Nordhus got the start and pitched all six innings allowing five hits, two runs, with eight strikeouts and one walk. 

Rhen Hageman pitched into the fifth inning for the Redhawks and had four strikeouts . 

Nemaha Central will face host Sabetha in the semifinals on Wednesday (5/21) at 4:00 PM. The Bluejays defeated ACCHS in the quarterfinals 14-1.
