The Valley Falls baseball team opened up the regional tournament at home on Wednesday night with a 9-2 win in the quarterfinals against McLouth.

The #1-seed Dragons (20-4) scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning after an error by the Bulldogs (4-17) defense.

They extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth thanks to a two-RBI double off the bat of AJ Reeves. Valley Falls would put the game away with six runs in the sixth inning.

The sixth inning was highlighted by an RBI triple from Trenten VanHoutan, an RBI double from Collin Kearney, and a two-RBI single by Reeves.

Reeves finished the game with two hits, four RBI's, and two runs scored. VanHoutan pitched all seven innings allowing two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.

VanHoutan held McLouth to just one hit through the first six innings but the Bulldogs were able to score two runs in the seventh with hits from Dalton Wilson, Coltin Harsh, and Wyatt Barker.

Valley Falls will host the semifinals and championship games of that regional tournament on Monday afternoon. Dragons will play Jefferson County North while the other semifinal will be Doniphan West vs. Oskaloosa.
