Holton Girls CC Wins Hiawatha Invite

The Holton girls cross country team has been gaining attention this fall and now ranked 6th in Class 4A.  The Lady Wildcats overcame a tough hot and humid day at the Hiawatha Country Club on Thursday to win the invite by 18 points over host Hiawatha with Falls City a distant third place as a team. 

Holton had the individual girls champion as Eva Cortes ran 20:51 for the gold. The Cats also had Ava Clayton place 3rd and Maya Doney finish 5th overall. Helping Holton to the team title was Kennedy Smith in 17th place and Katie Purcell 19th. 

Pauly Rockey placed second on her home course 12 seconds back of the leader Cortes. Bri Guilliams of Hiawatha ran 10th while Ali Krauter was 14th and Ava Andres 18th for the Redhawks. 

Josie Shelton of Royal Valley medaled 4th and Addilyn Lefferd of the Panthers was 8th place. Silver Lake placed 6th and 7th with Alessandra Gerber and Tessa Gerber. Maddy Mostelle was 9th to lead Nemaha Central girls while Adriana Delgado from Atchison and Belle Smith of Doniphan West rounded out the top 12. 

Jennifer Sweeney and Joah Anderson of Falls City were 13th and 15th and the top girls runner from Sabetha was Isabelle Walker who placed 16th.
