KPreps have released their preseason rankings ahead of week one action on Friday night.
The Axtell Eagles, looking for the four-peat, will begin the season ranked #1 in 8M-II as they enter the season with a 39 game winning streak.
The Frankfort Wildcats made the Final Four last season in 8M-II and they will begin the season right behind Axtell at #2 in the rankings. They return a ton of talent including one of the best overall quarterbacks in the state with Wes Anderson.
Rossville, who is now in the Big East league, will begin the season ranked #2 in Class 1A behind only defending champion Conway Springs. The Bulldogs dropped down in this cycle from 2A to 1A.
The Jackson Heights Cobras have plenty of expectations once again and it shows in the first rankings as they are #4 in 1A. They return a top quarterback in Drake Mellies and they posted a top five scoring defense last season.
The Nemaha Central Thunder, looking for the three-peat, will begin the season ranked #1 in Class 2A. They have won 26 games in a row and they will be led by quarterback Carter Hajek who is the reigning Sports in Kansas 2A Offensive Player of the Year.
St. Marys, one of the new Big East league members, will begin the season ranked #5 in 2A. They bring back quality skill position pieces and will be led by new head coach CJ Marple.
