Corning's Late Rally Falls Short in Opening Round Loss to Concordia

The Corning Post 216 legion baseball team opened the AA State Tournament in Concordia on Friday night with a 5-3 loss to Concordia. 

Concordia (12-7) starting pitcher Braeden Primeaux was the story of the game as he dominated Corning through six innings of work. 

Corning (14-8) trailed 5-0 going into their final at-bat but once Primeaux was taken off the mound, Corning tried to put a rally together. 

They scored three runs on RBI singles from Paxton Bowers, Ben Haverkamp, and Hunter Lamond but the rally stopped their. 

Concordia got a two-RBI single from Primeaux in the first, a two-RBI single from Rush LeDuc in the fourth, and an RBI triple from Matthew Eubanks in the sixth inning. 

Primeaux finished the game pitching six-plus innings allowing one run, two hits, three walks, and nine strikeouts along with the single and two RBI's. 

Lamond was the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game going 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI. He also pitched all six innings allowing four earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts. 

Corning will play an elimination game on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM with that game set to be broadcast live on 92.1 KMZA against either Iola or Norton.
