Hiawatha Takes Down Marysville in Opening Game of AA State Tournament

The Hiawatha Post 66 legion baseball team opened the AA State Tournament in Concordia on Friday afternoon with a 6-4 win against Marysville. 

Hiawatha (27-10) scored the first run in the top of the first on an RBI single from Ashton Rockey. Marysville (17-15) followed in the bottom of the first with two runs to take a 2-1 lead on RBI's from Gavyn LeDuc and Ty Moser. 

Hiawatha gained a 4-2 lead with three runs in the third inning on an RBI double from Rockey and a two-RBI single from Kaden Smith. 

An RBI single from Cooper Wischropp and a bases loaded walk in the fifth to Micah Oldham gave Hiawatha a 6-2 advantage. 

Wes Anderson gave Marysville an RBI double and LeDuc added an RBI with a sac-fly in the bottom of the fifth to get within 6-4 but that score would hold up the rest of the game. 

Gannon Becker was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game pitching all seven innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, two walks, and one strikeout to earn the win. 

Hiawatha advances in the bracket and will face Smith County on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM in a winners bracket game. Smith County beat Independence in their opening round game 3-2. The game set to be broadcast live on 103.9 KNZA
