The Hiawatha legion baseball team did just enough on Tuesday night to beat Seneca by a final score of 5-2 in a non-league contest.

The starting pitchers for both teams got off to good starts with Seneca scoring the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Cooper Kramer.

Dalton Siebenmorgan would replace Ashton Rockey on the hill for Hiawatha and got the final two outs of the inning with Seneca leaving the bases loaded.

Hiawatha would tally three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning which included a two-RBI double from Kaden Smith and an RBI groundout from Micah Oldham.

Seneca pulled within 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning with Jonah Deters scoring on a balk. Hiawatha added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI hit from Oldham along with Smith scoring on a wild pitch.

Seneca put their first two batters on in the top of the seventh inning and were unable to score with Hiawatha holding on for the win.

Siebenmorgan was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game earning the win in relief pitching three plus innings allowing no hits with one run and two strikeouts. He also reached base twice in three at-bats with a single and a walk.

Rockey pitched the first three innings for Hiawatha allowing three hits, one run, three walks and two strikeouts.

Deters pitched all six innings for Seneca allowing five runs on three hits with six walks and three strikeouts.

Hiawatha would go on to sweep the doubleheader as they would defeat Seneca in game two by a final score of 5-4.
