KSHSAA has released state softball tournament brackets ahead of the action which is set to begin Thursday, May 23rd at each respective location.

In Class 2-1A, Onaga (19-4) makes its first-ever state tournament appearance after winning the Wabaunsee regional tournament.

The Buffaloes hung on for a 3-2 win against Mission Valley in the regional championship which came after an emotional eighth-inning walk-off victory against Valley Heights in the semifinals by a final score of 5-2. In the quarterfinals, Onaga made quick work of Blue Valley-Randolph, beating them 10-0.

They are the three-seed and they will match up against six-seed Richmond-Central Heights (16-9).

The Vikings won the Lyndon regional tournament with a 7-6 win in the championship game over Lebo/Waverly. They got there by beating the host in a 14-2 blowout in the semifinals and beating Yates Center 16-1 in a run-rule finish in the quarterfinals.

This is the third consecutive trip to the state tournament for Central Plains with a third-place finish in 2022.

First pitch from the Green Sports Complex in Pratt will be at 5:00 p.m., which will be the final game of the day.

The reigning champion McLouth Bulldog softball teams are hoping to repeat after cruising through their home regional tournament that was moved to Leavenworth due to rainy conditions. In the championship game, they defeated Valley Falls 4-1. Before that, they defeated Doniphan West 11-0 in the semifinals, and in the quarterfinals, they beat Horton 15-0.

They earned the top seed and will take on eight-seed Skyline High School (10-13) based out of Pratt, so it certainly will be a road-like atmosphere for the Bulldogs.

The Thunderbirds won their home regional tournament by defeating Medicine Lodge in the championship game on Tuesday. Before that, they beat one-seed Stanton County 21-9 in the semifinals and South Central 11-1 in the quarterfinals. Skyline was the four-seed in the tournament and had a record of just 7-13 in the regular season. They haven’t reached the state tournament since the turn of the millennium.

First pitch will be at 11:00 a.m. with this being the first game of the day.

In the Class 3A state tournament, Marysville (16-11) earned the eight-seed after winning the Nemaha Central regional tournament on Thursday afternoon.

They shut out their final two opponents with a 1-0 win in the championship against Sabetha and a 3-0 win over Riley County in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, they beat ACCHS 16-5.

They’re tasked with going up against unbeaten and one-seed Holcomb (25-0). They won the Colby regional tournament with a thrilling 4-3 win in nine innings in the championship game over Cimarron/Ingalls. They beat the tournament host 8-1 in the semifinals and got a first-round bye. Holcomb is making their first state tournament appearance since 2021.

First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. with the game being the first of the day from Topeka.

Marysville is making their first state tournament appearance since 2017 when they secured a third-place finish.
