2024 State Baseball Tournament Brackets Released

KSHSAA has released the state baseball tournament brackets ahead of the action beginning next Thursday at each location.

In Class 3A, the Sabetha Bluejays baseball team made an incredible run to state which was springboarded by their seventh-inning comeback win against Jefferson West in the semifinals of the 3A Jefferson West regional tournament. They finished their run with a 4-1 victory against top-seed and then unbeaten Bishop Ward.

Sabetha will be the three-seed with their 19-5 record. They will face Hoisington/Central Plain, who are 15-10 going into the tournament after winning the Russell regional tournament with all of their wins coming by six or more runs. They made the state tournament last year, losing to Humboldt in the first round.

First pitch from Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan is scheduled for 5:45 p.m., and it will be the final game of the day. The winner will advance to the semifinals and play at 1:15 p.m. on Friday.

This is Sabetha’s third consecutive trip to the state tournament, but they are looking for their first second-day appearance since they won the state title in 2019.

Marysville (10-13) will also be in action in Manhattan on Thursday.

The Bulldogs won their home regional tournament with a 9-4 win over Ellsworth in the championship game. Before that, Marysville defeated Nemaha Central 10-5 in the semifinals and beat Beloit 18-11 in the quarterfinals. They were the six-seed in the tournament and had a record of 7-13 going into the postseason.

They will face the number one team in the state, Wichita-Trinity Academy, who enters the tournament with a 20-4 record. The Knights didn’t give up a single run in their regional tournament, which was at Douglass High School. They defeated Wichita Collegiate in the championship 10-0, they beat Douglass in the semifinals 8-0, and they stomped Fredonia/Elk Valley 16-0 in the quarterfinals. Trinity is in the state tournament for the first time since 2019.

The two teams will battle it out in the state quarterfinals at 11 a.m. for the first game of the day.

Marysville is making their first state tournament appearance since 2006.

In the Class 2-1A state tournament in Great Bend, Valley Falls (19-4) makes their third appearance in the last four seasons.

The Dragons won their regional tournament at Maur Hill-Mount Academy in Atchison this week. In the regional championship, they hung for a 7-6 win over Kansas City Christian. In the semifinals, they defeated in-league rival Pleasant Ridge 7-2, and they beat Maranatha Christian Academy 9-1 in the quarterfinals.

Valley Falls earned the three-seed in the bracket, and they will face six-seed Medicine Lodge, who boast a 14-5 record.

Medicine Lodge made it to the state tournament last year where they were upended by Onaga in a thrilling quarterfinal game by a final score of 8-7. They’re hoping to make it to the second day of the for the first time since 2016.

The Indians won the Sedan regional tournament with a 9-2 win in the championship against the host. They beat one-seed Cedar Vale/Dexter in the semifinals 3-1, and they got a 6-1 win over Central Burden in the first round. Medicine Lodge was just the four-seed in the regional.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on Thursday from the Great Bend Sports Complex. If they win, they will play again at 11 a.m. on Friday.
