Holton Hoops Sweep Raiders
By Justin Fluke

GIRLS: Holton 56, Nemaha Valley 17
Holton took control early and used an 11-0 run in the second quarter to go up 26-8 at halftime and coast to their 108th straight win in the Big 7 League.  Holton scored 23 points in the third quarter, turning several steals into easy buckets.  Kyrstie Miller had three straight steals while adding two assists and scoring the final 7 of her game high 17 points in that third frame as the Holton girls won their 15th straight game since an opening night loss to Wamego.  Calista Hickman added 8 points and Holton Coach Jon Holliday notched his 397th career win.

Nemaha Valey had 24 total turnovers and some early foul trouble that didn't help with Jaci and Jill Swart each called for two personals in the first quarter.  Ashley Rottinghaus led NV with 6 points and the Raiders have now dropped three consecutive after a 7 game winning streak.

BOYS: Holton 71, Nemaha Valley 60
The Holton boys led 7-0 nearly 3 and a half minutes into the game and used the fast-break to score many of their 43 first half points in transition.  Nemaha Valley fell down 48-24 early in the third quarter before getting back in the game with a 25-5 run to close the third period.  Trent Olberding took over during that stretch for NV with 11 of his game high 23 points.  Yet, the Raiders never got any closer than 7 points in the second half before suffering their first loss of the season.  Creighton Brinker added 14 points, including 8 of 11 free throws, Caleb Meyer scored 10 for NV and Drew Steinloge had 9, but the Raiders got only one points off their bench.

Holton sophomore Garrett Beecher, who had hit the game winning trey at Concordia on Saturday, had a career night with 14 of his 22 points in the first half including 4 makes behind the arc.  Ty Burdiek added 14 for Holton while Trent Tanking just missed another triple double and was joined by Cameron Karn with 13 points.  Holton won their fifth straight game to pull even with Nemaha Valley at 9-1 a top the Big 7 League boys standings.
