Taylor Weishaar, Kyra Johnson Among Area Scoring Leaders in State Tournaments

KSHSAA Covered released scoring stats from this past weekend’s state tournaments with leaders from each classification with multiple area athletes being recognized.

Riverside’s Taylor Weishaar led all scorers in Class 2A averaging 19.7 points per game in their three games leading to a runner-up finish.

Kyra Johnson from Doniphan West scored 16.3 points per game in their run for the Class 1A-D1 state title, their first in school history. Her teammate Avery Weathersbee was fifth with 12.3 points per game.

Frankfort had three girls finish in the top six in scoring with Sydney Wapp leading the way with 15.7 points per game during the tournament. Hattie Gros, their season-long leading scorer, averaged 15 points per game. Emma Hardwick was also very successful at scoring with 11 points per game.

Allison Jueneman of Hanover scored 17.3 points per game during their Class 1A-D2 state championship run. Her teammate Ceegan Atkins was fourth with 13.7 points per game.

Silver Lake’s Makenzie McDaniel finished fourth scoring 14 points per game in their three Class 3A state tournament games. Two spots behind her is her teammate McKinley Kruger scoring 12 points per game. Both Eagles finished 1st Team All Mid-East League as well.

On the boys’ side in Class 1A-D2, a pair of Axtell Eagles finished in the top ten in scoring. Isaac Detweiler and Brandon Schmelzle both scored 11 points per game which tied them for seventh.

In Class 3A, Marysville’s Peyton Smith was sixth in the tournament in scoring with 10.7 points per game.
