Corning and Sabetha Split

In game one Corning raced out to a 4-0 early and had to eventually hold on to pick up a 4-2 win and give Sabetha their first loss of the summer.

Corning plated three runs in the first inning on a two-RBI triple from Zac Fischer and a sacrifice fly from Austin Holthaus, then added a run in the second on an RBI-single from Trent Talley to lead 4-0 after two.

Corning had a chance to put the game away several times, but Sabetha starter Christian McAfee did a commendable job of limiting the damage and keeping the Raptors in it.

Sabetha tried to get back in the game scoring two runs in the fifth on an RBI-double from Marcus Baumann and an RBI single from Darrin Funk, but Corning’s Jason Abitz locked things down on the mound the rest of the way.

Ian Haverkamp was named our McDonald’s Player of the Game on KNZA after going 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored while on the found tossing five innings allowing just two runs to earn the win.

Treydon Talley added two hits in the game for Corning, while Zac Fischer had two RBI and a run scored.

The Raptors in the loss got two hits each from Shane Frey and Matthew Garber.

Sabetha salvaged a split with Corning winning game two 5-4 on a bases loaded error in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Raptors scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead with the big hit in the inning coming on a 2-out, 2-run single by starting pitcher Darrin Funk. 

Corning tied the score in the top of the fourth scoring four runs after a 2-out Sabetha error. 

The score remained knotted at four until Sabetha was able to scratch a run in the bottom of the fifth. 

Cooper Bradbury relieved Funk and needed just four pitches to record his first win of the season.

Seneca Takes Two from Hiawatha

Seneca used another strong offensive output to take a sweep over Hiawatha by scores of 11-1 and 9-6.

In game one Seneca plated two runs int eh second, five in the third and four in the fourth to earn the run-rule victory.

Damon Koch collected two hits and two RBIs, while Landen Baker added three RBI.

In game two Seneca again raced out to a big league plating seven runs in the second inning, but Hiawatha bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added another in the third.

Seneca plated their final two runs in the top of the fifth, and then Hiawatha scored three in the bottom of the inning but fell short by the 9-6 final.

Zac Kramer collected three RBIs in the win for Seneca, while Dalton Huerter, Damon Koch, Dylan Schultejans, and Andrew Henry each added RBIs.

Seneca committed four errors in the contest which led to all six of Hiawatha’s runs.
