In the first official football season of the Northeast Kansas League, there is only one team that stands a top the standings after six weeks. The Horton Chargers improved to 5-0 with a 28-0 victory against previously NEK League unbeaten Maur Hill Mount Academy, and got the help they needed as 5-0 Oskaloosa was upset by Pleasant Ridge 24-18. The Rams were trailing 18-16 entering the fourth quarter.
Horton pitched their second shutout of the season and has only allowed 26 total points scored against them all year. The Chargers went into week six with 10 sacks and 10 interceptions on defense as well.
The Chargers are having their best season since 2007 and now with the NEK League title wrapped up, begin Class 3A District play against Hiawatha next week. The Chargers also have games against Sabetha and Riverside to finish the regular season.
