Valley Falls Sweeps Volleyball Tri at Horton - Still Perfect in NEKL

In a Northeast Kansas League triangular on Tuesday night in Horton, the Valley Falls Lady Dragons stayed perfect in league play with convinving wins against the Chargers and Jackson Heights, while the Cobras finished the night with a 1-1 record.   

Valley Falls beats Horton 25-9, 25-12
It was a quick start as Emily Lane served the first 10 points of the match and Valley Falls had a 10-0 lead.  Sydney Gish and Callie Watson each delivered a handful of kills and Watson served to win game one 25-9.  Horton had leads of 3-0 and 7-4 in game two with great play from Katie Campbell and Daspin Bruning, but Valley Falls took the lead for good at 8-7 and scored 13 straight points behind serving from Macee Jepson to go ahead 17-7.  The Dragons went on to score 16 of 17 points to lead 20-8 and hold on for the 25-12 sweep. 

Valley Falls beat Jackson Heights 25-14, 25-10
Jackson Heights had an early 2-0 advantage but Valley Falls tied the score at 6 and Jepson served 6 in a row to make it 10-6 Dragons.  Callie Watson helped push the lead to 15-7 before a Horton timeout, but Jepsen served five more consecutive to make it 24-13 before Valley Falls prevailed 25-14 in game one.  Katelin Strube had a couple early kills for the Cobras in game two, but it was Ali Brown serving to push the Valley Falls momentum to a 12-4 cushion.  In one of the most impressive stretches of the night, Watson had four ace serves in a row as the Dragons took a big lead of 17-5 and Watson got the match-point kill to win 25-10. 


Jackson Heights beats Horton 25-21, 20-25, 25-23
A couple early kills by Strube game Jackson Heights an early 5-1 and 7-2 advantage before Horton's Katie Campbell hit back-to-back ace serves to pull the defecit within two points.  Morgan Bryan served five straight for the Cobras to stretch the lead to 13-6 and a big lead of 16-8.  Horton's Abby Ross and Bruning pieced together a few serves to pull the team within 19-16, but the Cobras got side out and an ace serve from Bryan to pull away for the 25-21 game one victory. 

Game two belonged to the Chargers from the first serve as Horton pulled out to a 6-1 advantage with serving from Emily Cairo and a couple strong kills by Katie Campbell.  Bruning that got hot with a handful of serves to make it 10-2 before Bryan pulled Jackson Heights back to within 13-11 score and Strube pounded down a couple kills.  The Cobras closed the gap to 14-13 before Ross answered with four straight Horton serves and the Chargers evened the match with a 25-20 win.  

Game three was tight early with an ace by Strube giving Jackson Heights a 4-3 lead and Taylor Abel adding a few servies to make it 7-4.  Bryan served three more to push the margin to 10-5 and Aiden Allen delivered a couple key points as the Cobras led by as many as 18-10.  Horton would make a late run and stave off match point three times before Strube crushed the game winning hit for a 25-23 JH victory. 

Valley Falls improved to 23-7 overall and 12-0 in NEK League play with the two wins.
Jackson Heights is now 6-19 overall and 3-9 in league after going 1-1 to avenge an early season loss against the Chargers. 
Horton falls to 7-15 overall and 5-7 in league play after the senior night losses and is just 3-6 in matches that have gone three sets.
