Holton 28, Nemaha Central 6

In their first meeting in five years, the Wildcats used two long touchdown runs and churned out 407 yards of offense to win their 42nd straight League game and reclaim the lone unbeaten record in the Big 7.

Nemaha Central committed the only two turnovers of the night and squandered opportunities in the second quarter when they dominated the field position, but failed to put points on the board.  While pinning the Wildcats at their own 8 and 13 yard line to start drives, the Thunder started two possessions at the Holton 40-yard-line and also drove inside the Wildcat 10 before time expired in the first half.

The Thunder, who fumbled away their first offensive drive of the night, went on an impressive 12 play, 68 yard drive and got a one-yard quarterback sneak by Tristan Allen to tie the game at 6, but Mason Barta blocked the extra point.  After being pinned deep on the ensuing kickoff, Holton senior, Indie Allen broke a 90-yard touchdown run to give the Cats the lead back for good with :34 left in the first quarter.  The Wildcat defense stiffened up and with 1:47 left in the half (and no first-downs yet in the second quarter), Lucas Lovvorn broke free up the middle as the fullback went 79 yards to make it 21-6.

Trey Tanking scored on a 14 yard run to open the fourth quarter for the final 28-6 margin as that short 25 yard drive was set up by a Thunder fumble.  Barta, who registered 11 tackles and led a Wildcat defense that had 6 sacks, opened Holton's scoring with a 10 yard TD run to cap the 8 play-58 yard opening drive of the game.  The Wildcat defense allowed just 43 total yards and 2 first downs the entire second half.

Holton did miss a 32 yard field goal in the fourth quarter and had 10 penalties for 83 yards before improving to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big 7 League.  Indie Allen led the way with 164 yards rushing on 14 carries and Lovvorn had 94 on just 4 totes as both players were aided by the long TD runs.

Nemaha Central finished with 194 total yards, both only a pair of first downs and 43 yards after halftime.  Devin Henry totaled 54 of the teams 65 rushing yards on 13 carries.  Allen was 11 of 19 passing for 129 yards and made several key plays under pressure.  He hit five different receivers led by Dylan Steinloge with 50 yards on 2 catches that took the Thunder down to the Holton five-yard-line before the intermission, but Allen slipped under pressure and time expired with no timeouts left.  Abe Elder and Zach Bradley each hauled in 3 passes before Nemaha Central fell to 4-1 on the season.
