Kansas State Track 4A Competition Highlighted by 20 Area Medalists

Between five schools from the area competing in Class 4A at the State track meet 20 medals were earned including a pair of State titles.

Both State titles came by the Perry Lecompton boys as Colin Coleman posted a time of 21.87 in the 200 meter dash to win the State title setting a new State record in the process. Coleman then teamed up Seth Surface, William Hinrichsen and Cody Williams to post a time of 3:23.70 to win the 4x400 meter relay title, also helping Perry Lecompton finish eighth as a team in the standings. Coleman on top of those two medals also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, while Surface earned another medal, too finishing seventh in the 400 meter dash. Lexia Jamison and Emma Taylor both also earned medals for the Kaws in the girl’s competition taking sixth in the 800 meter run and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, respectively.

Royal Valley Panthers had six medalists at State with all six medals being earned in the field competitions. Elizabeth Blevins recorded a pair of sixth place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, while Chris Chapman and Skyler Link each earned a sixth place finish, too in the pole vault and long jump, respectively. Link also added an eighth place finish in the triple jump to his State performance, while Patrick Broxterman also earned an eighth place finish his coming in the high jump.

Atchison Redmen came up with six medalists at the State track meet with Sierra Smith winning a three of medals. Smith finished third in the 200 meter dash, fourth in the 100 meter dash and teamed up with Imogene Bratton, Mady Shipley and Akiela Gill to take fourth in the 4x100 meter relay. Shipley also earned a seventh place finish in the girl’s pole vault, while Dane Anderson earned seventh also his coming in the shot put. Sarah Jaloma earned eighth place in the 1600 meter run for the Redmen.

The Holton Wildcats finished the State competition with a pair of medalists as Krystie Miller placed fifth in the discus and Brenden Hampton took seventh in the 110 meter hurdles.

Overall 20 medals were earned by area athletes in Class 4A at this year’s State track competition.
