Seven State Titles Won in 2A by Area Athletes at Kansas State Track Meet

Seven area athletes claimed State titles in Class 2A at the Kansas State track meet, while 26 total medals were earned.

The best team performance came at the hands of Washington County boys who placed second as a team led by the three State titles won by Dylan Hogdson. Hogdson won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs, setting State records in both the 1600 (4:22.72) and 3200 (9:20.76) meter runs. In the 800 meter run he posted a time of 1:59.55 to claim that State title. Hodgson also teamed up with Tristan Miller, Jefferson Simmons and Cole Thompson to place sixth in the 4x400 meter relay. Miller added an eighth place finish in the long jump, while Brett Herrs and Logan Kier finished third and eighth in the shot put and discus, respectively.

Washington County girls also saw a few State titles earned as Erin Alexander tossed her way to State titles in both the shot put and discus with tosses of 43'01 and 118'00. Brooke Tuma and Heidi Stegman picked up medals in field events for the Tigers earning sixth and fourth in the discus and pole vault, respectively.

The Jefferson County North Chargers also enjoyed plenty of great performances at the State track meet as Laramie Leakey and Luke Pyle each won State titles. Leakey won her State title in the pole vault winning with a vault of 10'06 to help the lady Chargers register an eighth place team finish in 2A. Randi Noll, Heather Polson and Jamie Navinskey each earned a medal in field events for the Chargers, as Noll placed eighth in the discus, Polson grabbed fifth place in the high jump and Navinskey finished third in the long jump, while also finishing fourth in the 100 meter dash. Navinksey also teamed with Jacee Kramer, Lauryn Baker and Hannah Twenhafel to place sixth in the 4x400 meter relay. Pyle was the only JCN Charger boy to earn medals as he won the State title in the javelin with a toss of 183'08 and placed sixth in the discus.

Valley Falls Dragon athletes brought home three medals at the State track meet led by Max Badgett who leap his way to a second place finish in the long jump. Chance Dalton Morrow grabbed a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run, while Emily Nottingham finished seventh in the 200 meter dash.

Jackson Heights Cobras had a pair of medalists in 2A, as Seth Holliday recorded a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run and Cole Olberding took seventh in the high jump.

For the Onaga Buffalos, David Koezler was the only medalist at State track placing eighth in the 400 meter dash, while McLouth only had one medalists also as Kayla Steffey finished eighth in the girls 400 meter dash.

The Class 2A State track meet wrapped up with 26 medalists from the area as the Twin Valley league and Northeast Kansas league highlighted the area performances.
