 Holton 50, Burlington 33

After defeated #3 seed Hugoton 53-41, Holton had let a win slip away with Friday's 38-35 semifinal loss to #2 seed Frontenac.  However, on Saturday at Hartman Areana in Park City, Holton rebounded and finished their season with an impressive victory against #1 seed Burlington to claim a third place trophy from the inaugural Class 4A - Divison 2 State tournament.

The Lady Wildcats led 14-7 after one quarter and by as many as 8 points in the first half, but trailed briefly 20-18 with 3:45 to go in the second quarter.  Sophomore, Hayley Thompson responded with a three-point-play and put Holton ahead for good as they ended the half on a 10-0 run.  Holton quickly ballooned the advantage to double-digits in the second half and pulled away for a convincing win.

Thompson finished with 15 points for Holton, but senior, Kyrstie Miller led the way with 20 to finish her HHS career and posted a total of 54 in the tournament.  Like the Lady Cat leader has done all season, Miller filled the stat sheet adding more than 5 rebounds, steals and assists each in the victory.

Holton forced 20 turnovers on Burlington, who played with their top senior player, Breanna Bluma, because of an MCL injury. Madison Stadel led the defending 3A State Champs with 11 points before Burlington ended their season with a 22-3 record.

Holton won 13 of their last 15 games this season and the third place trophy is the first for 23rd year Coach Jon Holliday, to go with a pair of runner-ups (2008 & 2012) and state championships in 1994 and 2011.  It also capped a 17-8 season with their 7th state tournament appearance in the past 8 years.
