Doniphan West Finishes with Three Individual Champs to Take Sixth at Osawatomie Wrestling Tournament

Doniphan West had a trio of champions at the Osawatomie Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 15th.  Garret Dunlap, Trevor Fee and Tristan Speer all won their respective weight classes to lead the way for the Mustangs who finished in 6th place out of 14 teams with 99 points.

     Garret went 4-0 with 3 pins to win the 160lb weight class.  Garret pinned Anthony Brigg of Immaculata and Derek Knoerfel of St. James Academy in his first two matches.  In the semifinals he won a 3-2 decision over Andy Blanton of Osawatomie, and then pinned Trey Isenhower of Prairie View in the finals.

     Trevor finished 1st at 170lbs, going 5-0 on the day with 4 pins.  He defeated Ryan Cokeley of Silver Lake (fall), Tavon Blazek of Iola (12-3 major decision), Gavin Badders of Osawatomie (fall) and Lance Hickman of Oskaloosa (fall) in his first four matches.  This earned him a spot in the finals, where he pinned Dallas Cox of Anderson County. 

     Tristan won the 195lb weight class by going 4-0 with 4 first period pins.  He defeated Seth Kingsolver of Osawatomie, Kortin Blevins of Doniphan West, Jose Montalongo of Pittsburg and Daylen Pressler of Prairie View.

     Kortin Blevins placed 3rd at 195lbs with a 2-2 record.  He won decisions over Montalongo of Pittsburg 11-4 and Kingsolver of Osawatomie 5-0.  Kody Collins went 2-2 and placed 4th at 145lbs.  he won a 9-0 major decision against John Diediker of Osawatomie and defeated Marc Reiss of Rock Creek by a score of 8-4.  Reiss is ranked 5th in Kansas Class 321A.  Also placing for Doniphan West were Dalton Masters 4th at 220lbs and Alex Martinez 6th at 132lbs.

     Doniphan West will wrestle in the Regional Tournament at Sabetha High School on Friday, Feb. 21st and Saturday, Feb. 22nd.  Action will begin on Friday at 2pm and matches will start on Saturday at 10:30am.
