Simply put, it was a dominating effort for the young girls Holton wrestling program on Saturday in Baldwin as the Wildcats walked away with Regional Championship and qualified six of their nine athletes for state. As a team, Holton took a lead early in the day and never looked back finishing with 125 total points while Santa Fe Trail was second with 107.

Four girls wrestled for the Regional title with Piper Robinson and Sadie Walker winning their brackets and Macey Gross and Madeline Montgomery placing second. Gracie Gallagher earned third after starting the day with a win and a loss but then rallying with four straight wins in the consolation bracket and ending her day by avenging her only loss of the tournament with a 24 second pin win in her sixth match of the day. Karoline Tannahill placed fourth despite having just two matches. Holton also got two wins each from Morisa Ware Tiah Gross to help win the team trophy.

Piper Robinson, 26-6 sophomore, gutted out her final two matches of the day with impressive 6-5 and 9-8 wins that went down to the wire. First year senior, Sadie Walker won all four of her matches by pin to improve to 29-4 this season. Fellow senior Macey Gross (25-6) won her first two matches by fall until losing in the title matchup against undefeated Kendra Hurla from Rossville. Montgomery also earned a pair of pin victories to improve to 24-6 in her senior campaign.

Holton first year Head Coach Mike Lovvorn was named the Regional Coach of the Year following the tournament in Baldwin and will take six girls to Salina for state on February 23rd and 24th.

Elsewhere from the area, Oskaloosa placed eighth as a team with just two girls competing but both won Regional Championships in Holly Thacher and Allison King. McLouth was ninth as a team with four girls as Leighana Patz won her bracket at 126 pounds and Raquel Manthe was third place at 143.  Marysville had Ella Johnson win a Regional tittle at 138 while Sabetha freshman Nakita Lawrence placed third at 126 and Lucy Henderson of Jeff West qualified for state placing fourth.
