Valley Falls Snares Two Wins at Jackson Heights

The Lady Dragons jumped to a 5-0 lead and never trailed in route to a double-digit victory.  Valley Falls stretched a 7-5 first quarter margin to a 22-18 halftime edge and then outscored Jackson Heights 14-8 in the third frame.  Ali Brown hit back-to-back treys and then had a reverse baseline layup to score 8 of her 12 points in a third quarter stretch and earned "Player to Bank On" honors from Citizens State Bank and Trust Company in Hiawatha.  Callie Watson added 10 points and hit 6 of 7 free throws as the Dragons improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in NEKL.  Jackson Heights had Jessica Keehn post a 17 point effort and Payton Thomas chipped in 8 before the Cobras dropped their fifth straight game to stand at 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the NEKL. 

The Valley Falls boys had a 13 point advantage on five seperate occasions but could never put Jackson Heights away in a battle of one-loss teams.  The Cobras trailed by 11 points after one quarter and at halftime but cut the lead to 4 just before Zac Allen hit a jumped to end the  third quarter and Valley led 56-50.  Jackson Heights took their first lead at 69-68 with just under three minutes to play, but could not stop the Dragons as both teams struggled to hit free thows in the fast-paced contest.  Trevin Jacobsen had 21 for the Cobras while Cole Olberding added 17, Preston Richter 12 and Cameron Thomas 11, but Thomas put back shot that went in was whiped off just after the final whistle. Jackson Heights made 8 three-pointers before falling to 8-2, while Valley hit just one trifecta.  Ben Gantz had is going on all night posting a game high 25 points to earn Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On" kudos.  Luke Burns added 20 and Gates Glassel had 10 as Valley Falls improved to 8-1 on the season.
