Doniphan West Wrestling Notches Fourth Place at Tonganoxie Invitational

First portion of the high school wrestling season came to a close this past weekend and for the Doniphan West Mustangs it was a strong first half of the season as they notched a fourth place team performance at the Tonganoxie Invitational.

The Mustangs finished behind Tonganoxie, Louisburg and Atchison in the team performances registering 146.5 total points and were led by a pair of first place performances.

Sophomore, Kody Collins and junior, Tristan Speer each notched a first place performance at their weight classes of 145lbs and 195lbs. Collins finished the day with a perfect 4-0 record with a pair of pinfall wins and a technical fall. Kody who the championship bout by a 8-6 score over a wrestler from Bishop Ward. Speer continued his stellar season on the mat winning this third tourney crown at his weight class this season by going 4-0 on the day with two pinfall wins and a 1-0 decision victory in the championship match over a wrestler from host Tonganoxie.

The top notch performances continued to roll in for the Mustangs on the day as senior, Trevor Fee and sophomore, Garrett Dunlap each registered second place showings at their respective weight classes of 160lbs and 170lbs. Fee finished with a 3-2 day with his three wins coming via pin, while Dunlap finished the day 2-1 in action.

Freshman, Kortin Blevins finished with a third place performance at 182lbs and sophomore, Cadence King notched a fifth place performance at 152lbs.

Mustangs head into the holiday break behind the strong showing at the Tonganoxie Invite and will look to continue their first half of the season momentum after the first of the year.
