Looking to head into the holiday break with some momentum Nemaha Valley played host to Hiawatha in a Big Seven league tilt and it was a Raiders sweep at the end of the night.

Lady Raiders started the night off with a 56-31 win, while the Raiders boys ended the night with a 51-32 victory to remain unbeaten on the season.

Girls’ varsity matchup started off with a back and forth affair as Hiawatha and Nemaha Valley traded blows in the first quarter and the Raiders lead just 19-14 after the first frame. Lady Raiders then took things in their favor behind a 13-5 second quarter to lead 32-19 at the break and then a 18-6 third quarter cemented things in Nemaha Valley's favor, while Hiawatha struggled offensively after the first quarter, fouled trouble compiled for the Red Hawks, too.

Raiders went on to notch the 56-31 win, behind balanced scoring attack as nine girls registered two or more points with five of the nine having seven to nine points. Junior, Jaci Swart and senior, Michaela Stallbaumer lead the way for Nemaha Valley as they each finished with nine points. Stallbaumer tallied seven of her nine in the first quarter to help set the tone early and earn the "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA, while Swart scored eight of her nine in the second half. Junior's, Hailey Nolte and Madison Koch each added eight points.

The Red Hawks were once again led by sophomore, Emily Gartner who posted her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Courtney Brockhoff added nine points.

With the win the Lady Raiders head in the holiday break at 4-1 and the Lady Red Hawks fall to 2-3 on the season going into the break.

In the boys contest it was back and forth just like the girls game in the first quarter as the road team, Hiawatha lead 10-8.

Raiders Coach, Jon Thomas wanting to give the team a spark and send a message put five subs in off the bench and the Raiders five of Tristan Allen, Abe Elder, Matt Winkler, Zach Bradley and Andrew Oller put together an 18-8 second quarter to give Nemaha Valley the 26-18 lead at the half.

In the second half the Raiders found their groove and outscored Hiawatha 17-0 to push their lead to 43-18 after three frames and went on to register the 51-32 win.

Junior guard, Devin Henry lead the way for the Raiders scoring double figures for the third straight game as he tallied 10 points, while 10 other Raiders added points in the contest. Allen finished with seven points, while Evan Hermesch and Matt Haverkamp each added six points.

Hiawatha in the loss was led by senior, Parker Hasenkamp who scored 10 points, while Conner Bigham tallied nine points.

Raiders with the win improved to 5-0 on the season going into the break, while Hiawatha fell to 0-5 is still in search of win number one on the season.

Teams head into the holiday break and will look to get back to the court action on Friday, January 3rd as Nemaha Valley travels to Sabetha (game will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA) and Hiawatha travels to ACCHS (game will be broadcasted on KAIR 93.7 FM).
