It's the final week of the regular season and some teams have clinched playoffs and district titles, were so others are still alive but still have work to do and for some this game this week will mean the end of their 2013 football season.

With crunch time upon us before the playoffs next week three area teams continue to reign atop their classifications, while another continues to be ranked in a few polls across the state.

Class 4A its been the defending State champs the Holton Wildcats getting it done on a regular basis again this season to the tune of an 8-0 record after a 31-14 win at Hayden last week. Holton has been number one across the state all season and have not been knocked off that pedestal this season and will look to wrap up the regular season undefeated when they take on Royal Valley this Thursday. Wildcats with the win last week have locked up the district title again and own a 22-game winning streak, there Bi-district playoff opponent for Tuesday, November 5th is yet to be official determined but it will be as the winner of the Hesston vs. El Dorado game will travel to Holton.

The Jeff West Tigers also continued to gain attention in the polls across the state receiving votes/others consider category with their 6-2 record. After a one-point loss to Tonganoxie last week the Tigers need a win this week and also need the Chieftains to beat Basehor-Linwood, in order to make the playoffs as the runner-up in their district.

In Class 3A, no area teams have been ranked at any point this season but a pair of teams continue to get attention in the polls on a weekly basis, that being the Nemaha Valley Raiders and Riverside Cyclones. For the Raiders with their 19-18 close call win over Rock Creek last week they secured a district title for the first time since 2001 and improved to 7-1 on the season. Nemaha Valley plays host to the winless Marysville Bulldogs in the regular season finale on Thursday, but will play host to the loser of the Sabetha vs. Hiawatha for Bi-Districts on Tuesday in the playoffs.

For the Riverside Cyclones they fell for the second straight week losing to Hiawatha this past week as their offense was held in check sending the Cyclones to 6-2 on the year and eliminating them from playoff contention. Riverside will close out the season against Horton this week, looking to just end the season on a high note. The Sabetha vs. Hiawatha matchup in that same district will be for the district title.

Class 2-1A continues to be dominated by the Centralia-Wetmore Panthers who breezed past another opponent trouncing Doniphan West this past week with defense and the running game. Panthers have allowed a measly 37 points this season for 4.6 points per game average, helping them to a 8-0 record this season, as they secured a playoff spot with the win last week but need a win over Jackson Heights to fully secure the district title.

Both Jackson Heights and Troy are duking it out for the other playoff spot in the district with Centralia-Wetmore and both continue to receive votes in some polls across the state in Class 2-1A. The Cobras sit at 7-1 on the season and fresh off a non-district win over Valley Heights last week and are ahead of Troy via the points currently in the district, but need to beat Centralia-Wetmore to make the playoffs. Troy who picked up a non-district win over Immaculata last week moved to 4-3 on the season, beat Jackson Heights earlier this season and would lock up a playoff spot with a win over Doniphan West and a Jackson Heights loss.

The McLouth Bulldogs continue to get some attention, also in the polls as they moved to 6-2 last week after a win over Valley Falls. The Bulldogs have locked up the district title and set themselves up now to host a first round playoff game on November 8th, but their opponent is still to be determined from district one featuring Centralia-Wetmore, Jackson Heights and Troy. McLouth turns their attention to the regular season finale first as they host Immaculata on Friday.

At the 8-Man level it continues to be the B&B Falcons taking flight as they went on the road yet again this season and this time took down ranked rival foe the Hanover Wildcats to claim the district title and Twin Valley League 8-Man title. The Falcons with the win have won seven in a row since the week one loss to Madison, moving to 7-1 on the season and remained number one in three polls across the state, while number two in the other. B&B now knows they will play host in the Bi-districts on next Tuesday and they will host Southern Cloud who finished as runner-up in their district, but the Falcons will look to take down the Blue Valley-Randolph Rams in the regular season finale first this Thursday.

The Hanover Wildcats despite the loss locked up a playoff spot as the runner-up in the district, moving to 5-2 on the season after the loss; Hanover is ranked as high as number three in one poll and five in another but fell out of the top five in the other two. By locking up the runner-up spot Hanover knows they will be on the road come Tuesday and will travel to Hope for their Bi-district game, but the Wildcats have their attention on the Frankfort Wildcats first in their regular season finale Thursday.

In 8-Man Division I the Clifton-Clyde Eagles who flew past Linn this week to improve to 6-2 continue to receive votes in the latest polls across the state. Eagles, also locked up the runner-up spot in their district punching their ticket to the playoffs, but still have to wait to see where they will travel for Bi-district play on Tuesday. Eagles wrap up the regular season at home in a non-district game against Word of Life.

It's the regular season finale week and many teams still have a lot to play for, which sets up many key matchups across the state.
