Frankfort Boys & Axtell Girls Win Team Titles in 1A Cross Country Regional at Lincoln as TVL Highlights meet

2013 Class 1A Lincoln Cross Country -- Full Results

The Twin Valley League dominated the Lincoln Class 1A cross country Regional taking home two of the top three girls and boys team performances. While, the girls competition had seven of the top 10 finishes were from TVL schools and eight of the boys top 10 were from the TVL.

In the boys competition the Frankfort Wildcats took home first place and were crowned Regional champs with 30 points, while the Wetmore Cardinals finished nine points back of them for second place. On the girls side it was the lady Eagles of Axtell again qualifying for state posting 23 points, just to beat out Lincoln who scored 24 points. New TVL team, Doniphan West posted a third place team performance.

For the Frankfort Wildcats senior, Adam Koch paced the way as he has all season racing his way to a Regional title. Koch breezed past the competition as he posted a time of 17:37.97, close to 50 seconds better than second place. His senior teammate, Keith Huddleston and freshman teammate, Noah Deters joined Koch in the top 10 taking eighth and tenth place with times of 19:53.17 and 20:00.35. Junior, Alex Roeder was just outside of the top 10, placing 11th at Regionals, while Sheldon Parthemer and Rylen Bailey placed 20th and 21st for the Wildcats.

The Wetmore Cardinals used three top 10 finishers to grab second place team performance just points behind Frankfort for first place. Senior, Josh Ballenger lead the Cardinals on the day with a sixth place performance, posting a time of 19:25.27, he was followed by his freshman teammate, Aaron Achten who took seventh (19:50.95). Junior, Jeremy Hoelscher also grabbed a top 10 finish placing ninth behind his time of 19:57.56. Rounding out the day for Wetmore was Layne Hodge and Isiah Ballenger who placed 18th and 22nd for the team.

Axtell girls qualified for State for the fourth straight year by winning the Regional as a team. Junior, Susan Peschel lead the Eagles on the day with a fifth place finish notching a time of 19:08.31, with her teammate Paige Menninga took sixth place posting a time of 19:18.13. Senior, Tricia Schmitz also finished in the top 10 taking home ninth place with a time of 19:46.22. Alexis Werner and CJ Strohmeyer rounded out the Eagles performances taking 20th and 21st on the day.

While in the boy’s competition, Tracey Schmitz for the Eagles also qualified for State after finishing second behind a time of 18:27.06.

For the Doniphan West lady Mustangs they took third as a team to qualify for state. Junior, Kassydi Miller led the way for the Mustangs placing tenth on day with a time of 20:05.09. Mackenzie Boos, Cara Prawl, Jessica Neibling, Elayne Clevenger and Kim Elloit all competed for the Mustangs finishing 13th, 14th, 17th, 18th and 23rd on the day.

Centralia, Clifton-Clyde and Valley Heights also saw runners qualify for the Class 1A state cross country competition. Panther freshman, Sadie Jones continued her strong season running to a time of 18:04.93 to place second and her teammate and fellow freshman, Madison Boeckman placed eighth behind a time of 19:41.47.

Clifton-Clyde sophomore, Abby Sikes finished right behind Jones taking home third place with a time of 18:49.10. For Valley Heights two Mustangs qualified for State; freshman, Adrian Pishny posted a time of 19:00.30 to finish fourth, while Miranda Ohlde finished 11th place but with her time qualified in across the state.

Twin Valley League will be well represented at the Class 1A state cross country competition on Saturday, November 1st in Wamego at Wamego Country club.
